S. 0. Times Office, Friday Evening. The state of the grain market was fairly tested by the auction sales at Studholme Junction, on Monday last, when some 80,000 bushels of every description of quality, from inferior chick feed to choice milling wheat, was offered publicly in lots to suit purchasers. There was a good attendance of southern millers, as well as local but the bidding was not spirited, and< the sales effected show a decline of quite 2d per bushel on the last weeic’s quotations. All jbe oats offered were passed in, the margin between buyers’ and sellers’ ideas of valuesbeing too great. A small lot of choice seed barley brought extreme rates. We do not anticipate any further ,fall qr wheat for New Zealand con* sumption, as there is quite six months to run before the new crop will be in the market, end it is hardly likely that any shipments will arrive from California, to come into competition with the stocks in; granaries. The freight and duty, added to ’Frisco prices, admits 61. no speculation. Farmers are showing more anxiety to place oats this week. The' market is quite glutted with ryegrass at varying quotations, according to quality and dressing. Barley continues neglected, for all kinds; except prime malting descriptions, which is all in second hands, Transactions throughout the week have been few. Quotations are: Wheat (milling),; 4s to' 4b Bd ; fowl, 2s 6d to da; oats (milling); 2s 9d to 2.s lid; feed, 2s fd to 2s 9d; barley (feed), 3s to 3s 6d; ryegrass, 4s to 4s 9d.
