A VIRAGO.
Mary Anne Adams is a married woman in London, whose recent battle with five policemen has excited the' envy and admiration of other Amazons of her class. While out for a walk with her husband a dispute arose between them which • ended in Mary Anno knocking her weaker half down. The assault was witnessed by a constable, who attempted ,to pacify- the woman. She resented his interference and laid him her husband. A sergeant of the police who came to the assistance of his suffering comrade was treated in a like manner, and when at last three more police made a rush at the .woman and threw her to the ground they were unable to take her tjO the station until a stretcher had been obtained, on which she was tied‘hand and foot and carried off. The procession was a thelancholy one, as the maid combatants had. been severely bitten, scratched, and kicked, and suffered more from the 'encounter than during a six months’campaign in Ireland. The Judge,,sentenced Mary Anne to tiro months’ hard labor, to relieve* her of a good deal of superfluous energy.
