TIMARU SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Timaru School Committee was held last evening. Present—Messrs Walcot (chairman), Eowley, Tennant, Jones and Bezzant. CORRESPONDENCE. , Sundry routine correspondence was read and dealt with, the most important item being a letter from the Education Board, offering to defray half the cost of a gymnastic apparatus, if the Committee would pay the balance. It was resolved —“ That the Chairman be authorised to accept the Board of Education’s offer to supply gymnastic apparatus, and to secure for the Main School a girl’s swing, and for the Side \ School whatever the funds in hand will allow." REPORTS. ■ The ordinary reports were presented : —Side School, attendances, 119.6 ; Main School—beys, 181.5; girls, 190 ; Infant School, 353. " The Head Mistress complained of the irregular attendance of some of. the girls. Mr Howe moved, Mr , Bezzant seconded, and it was carried—“ That the parents of girls whose attendance at school is reported as irregular be served with notices to compel the children to attend school in accordance with the ‘Education Act.’” inspector’s report. The Inspectors report on the discipline of the Main School was read ; and in connection therewith, the following resolution was carried—“ That the report of the Inspector on the discipline of the Main School be handed to the Head Master, with the instruction that this Committee is determined to maintain discipline, and regularity on the part of teachers, and that if necessary, snob changes will have to be made in the staff to secure that object. Also, that be be instructed to embody in his monthly report a return of the attendance of all the teachers, and to include time of arrival; especial reference to be made to any irregularities." ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £l3 5s 6d were passed for payment. VISITORS. The Chairman and Mr Eowley were appointed visitors for the ensuing month.
