More Twelve O’clock Licenses. Christchurch, September 5,

At the East Christchurch Licensing Court, to day, 10 applications were made : for extension o£ the hours from 10 to 12 o’clock. All but one were granted. The attention of licensees was called to the necessity of providing fire escapes for their respective premises. Disappointed PublicansAt the Lyttelton Court to-day the Commissioners declined to grant any extension of licenses from 10 to 12 o’clock. The Chairman said they were in a position to congratulate the townspeople generally on an improved state of affairs regarding drunkenness. During the months of July and August, 1882, the number of arrests’ for drunkenness was 15, while that for the corresponding three months of the previous year was 24, thus showing a decrease of, 37£ per cent. The reduction for the past 12 months, in comparison with the former year, was 30 per cent. “The Criminal Fugitives Act-” Dunedin, Sept. 5. At the City Police Court, Robert Warnes was charged with fraudulent bankruptcy. The police applied for a remand, to enable them to ascertain whether it was desirable to have the case heard here, or at Camara. The prisoner wished to he sent to Oamarn immediately, but the Bench granted a remand. This is the first case under “The Criminal Fugitives Act.” Business ImprovingThe Standard Insurance Company have declared a dividend of per cent, for the half year.
