WARNING TO THE PUBLIC.
[To THE EdITOB.] Sib, —I perceive w© are receiving a visit from those gentry known as “shoddy dealers.” Yesterday a man wearing a cbeesecuttor ’’ called and stated that as he was hard up, and wanted to get te Port Chalmers, did wo require a nice piece of navy blue cloth, hot thinking the man was a shoddy dealer, and having boon had before by these unscrupulous wretches,! declined ; and glad I am, when I saw the said dealer this morning in Co. with another rascal, felling the same tale in North street. The cloth is totally unfit for wear, as when made up it gives way as soon as one stoops. I know a family in Palmerston, who, thinking they had got a bargain, bought enough cloth to make clothes for all the family, and every one of them, in a fortnight, was one mass of patches from head to foot. It is hard enough for honest folk to make a living these hard times, without aiding these dishonest vagabonds to palm their •boddy on Unsuspecting, hut thrifty
housewives. I trust the nature of their trade will soon cause them to seek 1 fresh fields and pastures new.’ Trusting you will see the. force of making those tricksters known. I am, <fcc., John B. Wateblow.
