Applications for 3000 shares in the new Mutual Fire Insurance Company have been received from Gisborne.

The Benevolent Association in Christchurch want one Sunday in the year set apart at Churches for collections in aid of their funds.
The Levels Road Board disapprove the proposal of the Cemetery Commissioners to sell the North Cemetery Reserve. The Waimate Band of Hope held a very successful meeting on the 7th at which prizes were given for athletics. The concert in aid of St Mary’s Church Sunday School funds, will take place in the Barnard Street Hall, to-morrow evening.
There were 36 criminal and 76 civil oases beard at the Temuka Magistrate’s Court for tho quarter ending June SO last. The total claims in the civil oases amounted to £678 18s 3d.
A tale of local option comes from Tokomairiro:—" At a local option poll at Tokomairiro, 15 out of 460 on the roll voted. The number would not have been so largo only the Returning Officer was clerk to a Road Board, and held several cheques for contractors, who on going for them were induced to record their votes.”
At the monthly meeting of the Temuka Domain Board held yesterday, accounts amounting to £lllss 6d were passed for payment. It was decided to make application to the Christchurch Domain Board for 200 eawh of ash, oak, bitch, and sycamore trees, for immediate planting. Messrs Paterson and Meye were appointed rangers lor the ensuing month.
The third annual report and balance sheet of the Victoria Insurance Company, of which Messrs Boss, Sims and Co. are the local ti(rents, has just been published. It is one of the most prosperous and fortunate companies in the world, having twice in succession declared a dividend of 100 per cent per annum b isides carrying luge sums to the reserve £i nd. This is the sort of Company to hold snares in. At the ordinary meeting of the Good Templar Lodge at Temnka, the following officers were installed by Bro. Cooper for the ensuing term :—Bro Sando, W.0.T.; Bro Bussell, W.V.T.; Bro. Maolure, W.S,; Sister Blyth, W.A.S. ; Pro. Coltman, W.A.S. 5 Bro. B. Brown, W.T. ; Bro. McCann, W.O. ; Bro. Turner, W.M, ; Sister McCallum, W.D.M. ; Bro. Jones, W.I.G. ; Bro. Blyth, junr., W. 0.6. Bro. Harrison and Sisters Blyth and Bussell were appointed organists. It was reported that 25 new members had joined the Lodge during the past quarter.
