[Eeutbb’s Agbhoy.] Finance* Adelaide, August 2. The Hon. Havington Glyn, Colonial Treasnrer, delivered his Financial Statement in the Legislative Assembly last night. It showed that the revenue for the past financial year was £2,162,000, or £173,000 above the estimate. The increases were principally in Customs and land revenue. The expenditure for the year was £2,132,000, including a bonded debt for £524,000. The expenditure was £154,000 over the estimate. The Treasnrer estimates the revenue for the current year at £2,162,000, and the expenditure at £2,247,000. Ho proposes to raise a loan of one million in October next, and is satisfied that the same can be obtained at par. He expressed his disappointment at the slowness of the increase of population. The imports for the year exceeded the exports. The debt of the colony is £12,000,000, equal to £43 per head of. the population. In order to cover the deficit, the Treasurer proposes to tax land in outside districts belonging to Councils and Corporations, and to levy a penny stamp duty on cheques. ’ Arrest. Stdnet, Aug. 2. Eobert Warnee, arrested by the police on a charge: of having absconded qs a bankrupt from Oamaru, was brought up at the Police Court to-day and re« manded, the issue of an extradition warrant being withheld until : tho arrival of further evidence.
