WAIMATE.

A meeting of the Borough Council was hold on Monday last. Present Councillors Goldsmith, Collett, Cameron, Hunt, Sinclair, Freeman, Evans and Watts. : Or Collett apologised for the absence of Or Chiles. The minutes of last meeting were confirmed, and also the minutes of a special meeting hold on the Ist instant. Sundry correspondence was read and dealt with. The Inspector of Nuisances reported that parties who had been served, with notices to remove gprso fences wore complying with the notices, with the exception of one or two persons who were prevented by illness. The pro prietor of the stock yards at the rear of the Horse Bazaar, had promised to have the yards cleaned, and abate what was becoming a nuisance. Be Mrs Ballantyne’s application for exemption from payment of rate, Or Goldsmith said there were similar applications standing over since last mooting. Resolved Mrs Wills, R, Bellamy, and J. Mortimer be exempted from payment of rates this year.” The Council decided not to interfere in the matter of Mr Cmmings’application.

Resolved retaining wall in front of Messrs M&nchesters’ property stand over till next meeting, the Town Clerk to get information re the custom in similar cases in Timaru and Oaraaru Boroughs.” Resolved—“ That the Engineer call for tenders for shingling Rhodes and Harris streets where he deems it necessary ” ; also, “ That the Engineer report on the improvements in Hughes street, applied for by Mr Cook and others," Resolved—“ That the request of Mr Rickman and others re kerbing and channelling in Queen street be granted, the work to be let by tender." As similar works had been sanctioned by the Council several months ago to be carried out in other parts of the Borough, it was resolved —“ That the whole of the kerbing and channelling sanctioned by the Council be proceeded with at once, the work to be done by contract."

Besolved—“ That tenders be called for planting trees on the. Council reserves by the Works Committee; the Engineer to accept tenders and to have power to act.” Accounts amounting to £69 Is lid were passed for payment, after which the meeting closed.
