MISCELLANEOUS.
A man is like an egg ; keep him in hot water and he will become hardened, ‘ I occasionally drop into poetry,’ as the man said when he dropped into the editorial waste basket. A clothier has excited public curiosity by having a large apple painted on his sign. When asked for an explanation, he replied, “ If it hadn’t been for an apple, where would the ready-made clothing stores be to-day ?” A young man was loading his cart not a hundred miles from Foiirstone station (sys tho “ Newcastle Chronicle”) when referring to the recklessness of his horse, ho remarked to a man who was standing by, “ That’s the uneasiest beast ivver sa come across, all the time he’s sttmnin’ he’s wanderin’ aboot,” Some American citizens have presented to the church of St. Margaret, Westminster, a most superb stained glass window as a memorial of Sir Walter Raleigh, whose headless body is interred there. Underneath are four lines from the pen of the American Ambassador: — “ The New World’s sons, from England’s breast we drew, Such milk as bids remember whence we came ; Proud of her Past wherefrom our Present grew This window we inscribe with Raleigh’s name,”
