GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday, the 11th inst., in the office, Geraldine. Present —Mr Wm Postlethwaite (Chairman), and Messrs Wm. Upton Slack, John Godsell, Frederick R. Flatman, and Wm. Deßenzy. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. .tendehs.. The following tenders were opened and considered ; No. 22 contract, shingling Peckham’s road Frank Molloy, £6B 15s (accepted). No. 23, Brown’s road Timothy Sugrue, £35 (accepted). No. 24, Orari Station Road—Frank Molloy, £49 (accepted). No. 25, Rhubarb Fiat road —Joseph Webb, £37 (accepted). A quantity of correspondence was read and considered : FINANCE. Proposed by Mr Slack and seconded by Mr Godsell—“That the sum of £7OOO, due on July 14th, also the sum of £5700, due on July 19th inclusive, bo redeposited in the Bank of New South Wales, Geraldine for twelve months at the rate of interest offered, viz., 5 per cent; also that the sum.of £SOO, due on the 19th July next, be placed to the current account with the Bank of New South Wales, Geraldine." As an amendment Mr Flatman moved and Mr De Renzy seconded—“ That the sum of £SOOO becoming due on July 19th, 1882, be placed with the Bank of New Zealand, for twelve months, provided they give the same interest as other banks." The original motion was carried. . overseek’s eepoht. The Overseer’s report was read and considered, and the following resolution passed thereon : —(1) Herlihy’s contract on the Geraldin#road to be cancelled ;' (2) work to be done on Mr Skinner’s ; application ; (3) Reiman’s road to stand over ; (4)* work to be done in. Craig’s application; (5) Overseer to draw Board’s attention to the Orari bridge next month ; (6) advertise notice to owners of pigs on Waitohiand Kakahu downs to keep them from damaging the roads; (5) notice re grubbing gorso to stand over until next meeting. THE.HAEBOE BOARD, AND BILL. . A letter was read from the Timaru Harbor Board, dated June 16, forwarding the Committee’s report on raising a loan of £IOO,OOOO to continue the harbor works in Timaru. i Proposed by Mr Slack, seconded by Mr William Deßonzy and ,carried “ That this Board will co-operate with the Tiniarn Harbor Board in securing the unanimous assent of the ratepayers to the provisions of the Timaru Harbor Board Loan Act 188.1, so long as the country districts are fairly represented on the Harbor Board, and beg to suggest that any rates should bo levied on a sliding scale.” Proposed by .Mr Slack, seconded by Mr Godsell and carried —“That this Board approves of the principle of Mr Sutter’s Bill'on, certain conditions, viz., that Timaru should be allowed four members, the Geraldine Cpunty four members, Waimate two members and the Levels two members, which is tantamount to Timaru having five members, and would be prepared to allow the Hakateramea country and the land on the south side of the Elephant Hill range to be allotted to Waitaki.” BATES, COUNTY AND EOA.D BOAED. From the Geraldine County Council, dated 12th June, stating that Mr Moody’s notice of motion re striking a County rate was ordered to be held over until the meeting to be held on 3rd July. , Proposed by Mr Slack, seconded by Mr Flatman, arid carried—“ That the usual notice, in accordance with the “ Rating Act,’’ be published that it is the intention of the Geraldine Road Board to strike a rate for charitable aid purposes of 6d in the £ on all rateable property in ; the district in the year 1882." '■ ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £622 2s 3d were passed for payment. The Board then adjourned until Tuesday, the Bth day of August, at 10 a.m.
