WAIMATE BRANCH RAILWAY
From a return moved by Mr Steward of the cost of the various matters in connection with the Waimate branch railway (Studholme junction, Waimate) it appears ahat the total cost of construction was £18,960. Of this £14,726 was the actual cost of making the line, the rest of the expenses being set down to land fencing, and, rolling stock ; repairs and maintenance during the two years ended March 31, 1882, amounted to £660 ; cost or working branch for year ended March 31, 1882, £558; revenue derived from passenger and freight traffic over the branch for the last two years, £3617; revenue accruing to main line in respect of foods traffic from Waimate and Studolme Junction to Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton,and Port Chalmers during the past two years, £6584.
