Detective Jeffrey, formerly of Auckland, i has been suspended for some time; and,in consequence of certain irregularities, the Police Department gave him an opportunity of sending in his resignation, on account of long service; which he has done. Penalty for Driving Scabby Sheep- & Wellington, July 8. In the case of Richardson v. Elderly, wherein' the defendant was charged by the Sheep Inspector with dnving infected sheep on the highway, Mr Ward B.M. gave, judgment this morning, inflicting the minimum penalty of £5 and costs. The case was previously heard on April 22, when the Magistrate dismissed it, on the ground that at the time of driving, the sheep werexovered by a clean certificate; but decision was reserved for appeal. A similar penalty was inflicted on Eeith for the same offence. ,
