THE SUSPICIOUS DEATH AT OAMARU.
“ The police are, we believe, in possession of some very material, evidence, otherwise they would not, at any rate until after the close of the coroner’s inquest, have charged Beatliie with tho capital offence. But what that information is tve cannot say, for the police decline to give us tho slight est hint. A post-mortem examination was made yesterday by Dr DeLautour, and it is probable that he may have discovered that the woman did not dio from drowning and that there were traces oi foul play upon the body. Viewed in the light of Sergt.-MajorThompson’s remark in tho Court that he had evideDice that tho woman was killed by some person, the supposition that the examination has resulted in discoveries of tho nature wo have mentioned appears well founded, but it is merely a supposition, for, as wo have already said, the polico dt :clino to give any information.” —“ Oaimaru Mail.”
