THE CITY OF PERTH.
We were enabled last night only to notify ’the fact that the City of Perth was afloat. On Sunday a good manyl people looked upon the enterprise as hopeless, but the pumps were set to work early yesterday morning, and a great quantity of water got out. As many of the bags of grain as could be got at, were also thrown out, for the purpose of lightening the ship. Per an hour or two after noo,n the tug kept an easy strain on the ship, and as the tide rose the vessel began to move slightly. From this it was only a question of time and carefulness. A couple of hours of anxiety were passed by all concerned, until at about four o’clock the ship began to follow the tug. smoothly, and it was evident she was fairly afloat. She was taken to the outer anchorage, a little south of the line of the breakwater, and was found to be making very little water during the night. During this i&y a good number of men were employed in getting the disabled rudder temporarily repaired, and trimming the cargo. A full-sized anchor was also sent on board, to be used in case of emergency. It is expected that the vessel will bo ready for sea before to-morrow morning.
