The Christchurch Shooting Case. * Christchurch, June 8. At the Magistrate’s Court this morning, David McNevin was charged with having shot at John Glanville, with intent to kill him. The offence was committed at Tooraer’s Boarding House, on Tuesday night. Mr McConnell, solicitor, applied for a remand till Friday and said that a plea of insanity would bo set up. The remand was granted. An InnovationThe St. Albans Licensing Commissioners granted licenses to day for houses to keep open until 11 o’clock p.m. It had previously been thought that licenses could only be granted for 10 o’clock or 12 o’clock. The Wakanui ElectionAshburton, June 8. At the Resident Magistrate’s Court this morning, Mr Beswick, R.M., ruled that a deposit on an agreement to purchase land at the end of a term of years was sufficient rpialification for an elector to ho placed on an electoral roll as a freeholder, A large number of unqualified voters were struck off the roll, which was shown to be stuffed. New Licenses RefusedAt the sitting of the Ashburton Licensing Committee.to-clay, all applications for new licenses were refused. The weather is wet and cold, Mr Saunders at Ashburton. Mr Saunders addressed a meeting at the Town Hall, last night, and a vote of thanks was carried. Man MissingA man named George Compton, a well-to-do builder has been missing since Monday last. No trace of bun has yet been found. Body FoundMr Compton’s body has been found in tho Ashburton river, three miles below his house.
