Wilkin and Co. report as follows: ; Horses—On Saturday about 25|horses were entered, in addition .to a quantity of drays, harness, &c, The attendance was not large, and it was with great difficulty sales were effected, there being but little demand, with; prices considerably, lower that last quotations. It is scarcely ;to be expected, that there will be any improvement in the market for two or three months at the least. , v Cattle—Well bred milch cows,have brought, good pikca, as they .always, do; but for ordinary 'dairy stock there is little or no enquiry., At Winchester Fair.onThursday they .yardflS about 60. head. . They sold 10 head prime heifers at £6 2s 6d; 10 head forward condition, store bullocks at,; £5:10a; 9doat £3 Sa ; Ido at £7 ; 3doat£s 7s 6d per head. They quote prime beef at 22s 6d medium,. 20s per,. lOOlbs. ;At Mr McCullough’s clearing sale, irr: con junction with Mr K. Fl’ Gray, ,they sold 11 head milch cows from,£4 up to £9 5s per head.,; Sheep—Bitile or no business is doing in this class,' of stock, and nothing can be expecte lat this time of the year. Prime fat sheep are still at last quotations, but transactions are limited, as. the local demand is fairly well"supplied for present requirements. ,At Winchester bn Thursday they penned several lots of cross-breds, but were unable to effect sales, as they didnot reach oWn -ra’ reserves. : , ,

Messrs Maclean and Stewart rcport for the past w£ck as follows : '' Horses —A large number of very superior draught horses were on Saturday entered at their yards for sale, among which were 12 |lielonging to Mr Sibly and 8 the property of another contractor. These horses attracted considerable attention, but they regret to have to report the dull demand experienced for them, and the prices obtained were considerably under their values. The total entered for sale was 52, of which 23 found buyers at the following prices:—From £26 to £34 for first class geldings and mares ; from £lB to £2l for medium sorts, and for ordinary hacks and inferior harness horses, from £8 to £l6 Sheep—There is little 'demand for store Bhe> p at present. About 2000 were entered for sale at Winchester on Thursday las f .. They sold 250 cross-brads, two-tooth, at 13s; 102 cross-bred wethers at 12s 6d, and privately during the week they have placed 3000- merino ewes, and 300 crossbred ewes at satisfactory prices. Fat sheep are keeping in fair demand at full values, equal to|froth 2d to 2|d per lb. Privately they have sold 500 at these quotations;-v . • Cattle—They report a quiet demand, for store cattle, and prices offering are rather unfavorable to sellers. At Winchester last Thursday they sold 44 steers and heifers at from 42s 6d to 54s j 22 r steers at from £3 10s to £7; heifers at £5 2s 6d, and calved at 30s. Fat Cattle—Present values are much the same as when they last reported, viz*, from 20s to 22s per’ lOOlbs. 1

Messrs William Collins and Co. report a large attendance at their regular .weekly auction, at their rooms on Saturday of produce and general merchandise. They quote Keg butter, 10 per lb; fresh do, Is ; potatoe.', 50s per ton, per sack, 4s 6d ; flour £lO to £l2 per ton ; bran £5 per ton; onions, 6s to 7s per cwt; honey, 4d per lb ; bacon pigs 12s to 18s each; hams and bacon, of inferior description, 4d- to 5d ; guaranteed quality, 7d to 9d ; damaged wheat, 8s to 9s per sack; seconds wheat, 2s 6d to 3s per bushel; oats, 3s ; fowls, 2s to 2 i 9d per pair; ducks, 4a 3d per pair; canaries, 10s each. Groceries, furniture and sundries found buyers at fair rates. In their yards they sold, under bill of sale, 4 draught geldings, .drays, ploughs and farming implements, at 'satisfactory figures. During the week they held, a clearing sale of furniture, books, glassware and linen at their rooms, where all lines submitted moved off - freely. Their sale bn the premises of Mr John Melton, Church street, drew a large speculative audience, when the whole of his choice and well-selected articles of furniture brought extremely good prices.

Messrs Southan and Stubbs report for their weekly market and auction on Saturday as follows;—There was a good attendance at the auction, and lines not in excess of demand brought fair prices. ’ Blue and red Derwent potatoes were far in excess of requirements, growers glutting the market j consequently prices slightly fell. Sales, 45s to 565, sixty tons ini ; all being placed during the week. ' Onions, good sorts, keeping, from 8a 6d|to 10s 6d per cwt, with arising market. Chicken wheat, plenty to hand; sales, los to 13s per tack, bags included. Fowls, 2s, 2s 3d to 3s 6d; turkeys, 6s 6d to' 7s 6d per pair; cabbage plants, 9d to Is per 100. Damaged oats— A small line brought 4s to 6s per bag. Bacon, first quality, 6|d ; inferior, 3d to4d ; hams, inferior to prime. 4£d to Bd. Cheese at present is Closely held by manufacturers; prices, 4d to sd; Akaroa, 5J to 6d. Some few lines in household furniture and effects brought prices up to vendors’ reserves.
