[Reuter’s Agency.] The Phoenix Park Murders- ; , London, May 9. The police have arrested in Dublin, a cabman who is believed to have been employed by. the Phoenix Park assassins, and it is supposed that a clue to the murderers has been obtained. May 10. The Dublin cabman who was yesterday. arrested-on suspicion of being concerned in the assassination of Lord Frederick Cavendish and Mr Burke, has been released. His name is Moore, and it has been ascertained that ho has recently arrived from America. It is stated, however, that several further arrests have been made; A reward of £IO,OOO has been offered for the discovery of the murderers', and the police are sanguine of success. The New Chief Secretary.
It. is announced that Mr George Otto Trevelyan, Secretary to the Admiralty, has been appointed. Chief , Secretary for Ireland, hut without a spat in the Cabinet, " The comments of the Press indicate that the appointment of Mr G. 0. Trevelyan as Chief Secretary for Ireland has met with general approval, both in England,and Ireland. ■, : ~ ■
It is announced that Mr J. 0. B. Hamilton, : Accountant-General of the Admiralty, will succeed the late ..Mr Burly) as Permanent Under-Secretary for ‘lreland. | The Rumored Petition for a : Dissolution. The statement circulated yesterday that the Lord Mayor of Loudon had been requested to summon a public meeting with the object of petitioning the Queen to dissolve Parliament [is authoritively denied. ArrestsSeveral persons recently arrived from the United States have been arrested by the police in Ireland on suspicion of being concerned in the schemes of the Land League. Exclusion of Chinese- , A noyv Chinese Exclusion Bill, prohibiting Chinese immigration to the United States for'a period of ten years, which recently passed the Senate and the House of Representatives, has received the assent of president Arthur. - Mails. The Homeward mails via Suez 1 -and Brindisi, which loft Melbourne on March 30th, were delivered hero to-day. Commercial. Consols are unchanged at 101 v. New Zealand 5 per cent 10-40 loan has declined to 106 ; and 5 per cent 1880 loan to 103, ex dir. ; I.V per cent 1879-1901 loan is unchanged at 103 L The markets for colonial produce remain at yesterday’s quotations.
