DUKE OF SUTHERLAND
THE BARQUE
This unfortunate vessel is hopelessly lost. After being allowed to drift yosto r day, towards Caroline Bay, for the purpose of getting clear of the shipping, she fell over on her side and began to break up, her main-topmast and the greater part of her spars coming down at the same time. The clothes of her people and most of the valuables in her cabins have been saved and as much of the 'wreckage as possible has been secured. Too much praise cannot bo awarded to Captain Mills (Harbormaster), and Captain McGowan, of the Benvcnue, whose energy has been untiring throughout. We should be glad to bo informed how much more the ‘looming Harbormaster” will be expected to do under such circumstances, or whether the Board expect to obtain more energy and skill in the new man than the present Harbormaster possesses.
