THE KING MEETING AT WHATIWHATIHOE.

[By Telegraph.] ■ Alexandra, May 2. Nothing was done at tho Native meeting to-day. Tawhiao lias not returned from pigeon shooting, and he may not be back till to-morrow afternoon. Natives continue to arrive despite the heavy rains. Heavy rains have delayed the arrival of the people, and it is impossible to say when the talking Will commence. Chief Haura arrived from Kopuato day, and says there are very few Natives there, though some are reported on the way. The Natives continue to arrive at Alexandra. I hear on good authority to-day that Tawhaio is not likely to announce any strange policy. Probably if ho consulted his own inclinations and those of younger men, he would do so, but tho old people, are averse, and it is doubtful if ho can break away from their counsels. 0 wing to the absence of land sales, and tho limited cultivation; the King!to Natives are almost wholly without money. There is some talk of reestablishing thoKingite newspaper with the old plant, which is now at Kopua. Paora Inhirc has collected £25 towards (hat object. There are now Europeans living at Kuwhia. There arc only two blocks of Crown land granted, one of thirty-four and the other of forty-four acres on separate sides of the harbor. The opinion of tho natives about Wir.iata, the murderer of Packer, is uniformally adverse. They say ho must go some time, and deserves all ho will obtain. The people hold the same opinion about Moifat as do tho Wanganui natives. Ho had gone hack prospecting to a part of tho country, from which ho had been repeatedly warned. Ho was told what would

happen, but persisted in defiance of a friendly chief here from Kaipara. Connell’s Hotel, Alexandra, was robbed last night of a cashbox conlain ing£3s and some valuable papers. The box was taken from the bar. The robbers are unknown. The entrance was effected by the window, and the bar door forced open with a screw-, driver.
