GERALDINE.
A public meeting of ratepayers in the Geraldine Road Board District was hold in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Gefaldine, on ■ 7 Friday evening to consider a proposal to divide the district into wards and other important business. There was a limited , attendance,.and Mr r W. Postlothwaitb 0 accepted the chdir. The Chairman saidthe. first business was to decide as to the .expediency .of dividing the Road, District into, wards,, and' he read* an “ opinion” bn the ' subject from Mr J.W/White, solicitor, Titdaru, which was favorable to the ; proposed,division. / s ■: . / Mr, Coltman moved and Mr Huffey seconded quested to take the hecsssary steps to' divide the district into wards.”' : • ■ As an amendnrenfit was proposed by., - Mr lanes, seconded: by Mr : J. Skinner• “That the district be. not divided." The amendment was carried and the ; motion declared lost. Some discussion then took place about the action of the Road Board re gorsefrom tlie roads, the ad visableness of placing the district under the Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1881 (to which the meeting was warmly opposed), the adoption , of the Local Elections Act, delay in sale : of reserves, and the meeting then, terminated with I ,a vote 'of thanks to the' Chairman.;’.' :; ’ v ; ;:i *.
