ASSESSMENT COURT.
[Before J. Beswick, Esq. R.M.,)
The Court sat at 12 o’clock to-day. Several objectors who bad given notice of objection did not appear. J. G. Allen’s mill property assessment was reduced from £350 to £250.
James Bruce objected to the valuation of bis new mill, having had no use for
it. The Court disallowed the objection, the valuation having been made for the ensuing year. The saw-mill was assessed against Mr Bruce, but bo showed that he had let it for one year, and Mr Jackson’s name was substituted.
James Burford objected to the valuation of his house and bakery at £35. No alteration was made.
Mr Evans objected to the valuation of two or three of his properties, but he did not appear. Alexander Ferguson (for the National Bank) objected to the valuation of several properties in Sophia street. A property assessed at £7O was reduced to £55.
A shop assessed at £3O was reduced to £2O.
Cliff’s old buildings, assessed at £2OO were reduced to £145.
Henry Green objected to the valuation of a section and 4-roomed cottage in LeCren’s terrace at £35. It was reduced to £25. His own residence, assessd at £BO was reduced to £SO.
Graham objected to the assessment of several sections. They were reduced from £IOO to £BO.
J. Makepeace Howe objected to the assessment of his properties at £25, which were reduced to £2O, and from £45 to £4O.
Edward Puck objected to the valua tion of his dwelling house at £l5O. The Court, allowed a reduction of 15 per cent.
A. iPerry' objected to |tho' valuation of his office in the Main North Rond at £275. The Court reduced it to £204. Also to the valuation of tho Lynwood Hotel which was assessed at £4OO. Tho Court reduced it to £340.
F. B. Raymond objected to tho assessment of his land at £ls. It was reduced to £lO.
Thomas Hurt objected to the assess ment of his hotel at £350. It was reduced to £297 10s.
A. O. G-. Stone (for whom Mr Hamersloy appeared) objected to his assessment at £3OO. Being duly sworn Mr Stone said he valued his property at £3500. It would bring him £3OO a year. Some time ago he could have had £4OO. The Court reduced the assessment to £255. An objection to the assessment of a piece of land and a cottage was disallowed. J. S. Warren objected (by attorney) to the assessment of his property at £9O. The amount was reduced to £75 10s.
J. Cullman, (as trustee for the Oddfellows Hall, Barnard street), objected to the assessment at £125. It was reduced to £75.
Ebenezer Smith|objected to his assess ment at £IOO. It was reduced to £75 The Court then rose.
