THE SEWAGE SCHEME.
[To the Editor.]
Sib, —I notice by the report of_ the proceedings of the Borough Council on Thursday last that they have abandoned the sewage scheme for the present, that is until the water, rates are reduced.- If the resolution of Councillor Jackson had been carried; namely, to have plans, &c., prepared for a thorough scheme the Council would 1 have acted wisely, as before that could 1 be done and all preliminaries completed the water rate would - be' reduced. I do not imagine there would be any difficulty with the ratepayers re sanction to raise a loan even at the present water rateS. His Worship seems to have put’his foot on the idea that the sewage would be a nuisance on the beach. , I would advise the ratepayers to he cautious before they adopt his theory. I remember he predicted that the Breakwater would never be a success. Should the sewage nuisance prove as great a contradiction to his opinions as the Breakwater suecess is, then woe be to Timaru if the beach sewage scheme is carried oat.- 1 -! am Ac. . V ’ • - , Advance.
