MURDER AT WAIAPU.
[Bt Telegraph.] Wellington, April 6. A messenger has arrived from Waipu, reporting that a native named Eana killed another native at Major Eopata’s settlement, Waipo Matine. Mr James Murphy, J.P., proceeds thither tomorrow to make a preliminary enquiry. The quarrel arose over a trifling matter, when a souffle ensued, and the deceased, after falling to the ground, received, it is alleged, a kick on the head. Napier, April 6. Information has just been received that Te Rana Te Eahunui, a Maor.i was killed by his nephew, Tamati Pura, on Wednesday evening, at Wai o Matine, near Awanui, on the East Coast. The parties had a fight, and the prisoner hit his uncle with a blunt instrument, inflicting a wound which resulted in his death. Captain Pierce leaves by the next steamer to hold an inquest.
