It is now stated that *l2O lives were saved from the Douro alone, but that the captain and.oSßcers perished; Both vessels had U large number of passengers on Board, but the total loss of life has hot yet been ascertained; ; The latest Intelligence to hand with regard to the loss of the steamers Douro and Yrure states that 46 persons have lost their lives by the disaster. Of these 30 were on board the Yrure. Parkes Among the Civil EngineersThe members of the Instiution of Civil Engineers entertained Sir Henry Parkes the Premier of Hew South Wales, at dinner to-day. Mr C. Horgory, formerly, President of the Society, presided, and in proposing the health of their guest warmly eulogised the enterprise and industry of,' the colonies. Sir Henry Parkes, in replying to the toast, predicted an amazing growth for Australia . in the future, and at the same time expressed his belief that the colonies would continue to cling to the Mother Country and maintain the , integrity ; of the Empire.
