S. 0. Times Office, Monday Evening Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week as follows : Horses—A large number of draughts and light harness horses were on Saturday entered at their yards for sale, 71 head, having passed under! the hammer, in addition to a large variety of drays, ploughs, &c. They have to report a marked increase in the demand for all classes. The attendance throughout the sale was large, the bidding for a number of the horses very keen, .and the prices obtained show that the values of good draughts have considerably adyanced since they last reported. On account of Mr Alexander Pringle, whose entry consisted of 8 first-class draught mares and geldings, they sold the lot at prices ranging from £2l to £42. On account of Messrs Corkery Brothers they yarded and sold 28 head at from £ls to £29, and from £l2 to £lB for medium sorts. A team of three first-class geldings, the property of Mr Campbell, sold from £25 to £3O 10s ; and 15 head the property of various owners, found ready purchasers at prices similar to the above quotations, Alto-
gether they sold 54 head, making one of the largest sales of horses they have held in their yards for a long time back. On Monday last, at the Washdyke, they yarded, on account of Messrs Cook and Eaine, 18 head light horses unbroken. These were eagerly competed for, and all were sold at from £5 10s to £lB. the former price being for yearlings. On Tuesday, at St. Andrews, they entered and sold, on account of Mr Alexander Copeland, 10 head first-class mares and geldings, for which there was a keen competition. These were ' sold at from £22 to £3B, the latter price being obtained for a splendid “Knockdon ” gelding. On Thursday, at Temuka, on account of Mr Matthews, they sold off his splendid draught stock, and the prices realised w®re :—A two year old filly, by Glenroy, dam Violet, 72 guineas; yearling fillly, by Banker, dam Violet, 60 guineas ; and a filly foal, full sister of the latter, 44 guineas ; filly foal, by Banker, dam Highland Mary, 22 guineas; colt foal, by Banker dam Princess Royal, 40 guineas; two year old filly, by Ben Lomond, 23 guineas. The Clydesdale entire Strathmore was knocked
down to Mr Robert Edgeworth at 100 guineas, and the thoroughbred entire Harkaway to Mr McKinnon, at £45 guineas. 90 guineas were bid by a gentleman from North Canterbury, for the yearling colt Overdraft, by Banker, dam Highland Mary. He was passed in, however, for 100, and a sale has since been arranged. 10 head mixed draughts sold at satisfactory prices. Sheep—There is still a brisk demand for all classes of store sheep, and prices obtained at present are very favorable to sellers. At the Washdyke yards on Monday, a very large number were penned, their entries consisting of 1000, al of which found purchasers at the following prices : 140 cross-bred ewes at 10s 6d 1 220 merino ewes at 5s 7d; 193 lambs .at 8s 7d ; 150 cross-bred hoggets at 12s 6d; 190 merino ewes, at Bs Id ; 120 crossbred ewes at 8s 3d; and privately during the week they have sold several mobs at the above quotations. Fat Sheep—They quote at from 2d to 2Jd per lb. At these figures they have placed several 3ptß.- , Btod rams —On account of the Pareora Station last Monday they entered and sold 48 pure-bred long-woolled rams at prices from 2 to 4| guineas. These sheep were a very fine lot, and well worth the money given for them. At the same place they sold 26 Liecester
and Lincoln rams at from to 3 guineas. On account of the Otipua Estate they have sold privately a few of their stud rams at satisfactory prices. Cattle—Since they last reported, store cattle have been more enquired for, and prices are rather in advance; A very large number were yarded at the Washdyke last Monday, their entries consisting of 204 head. They sold 100 calves at from 34s to 40s. Cows at £3 12s 6d to £5 12s 6d. Steers and heifers from £3 to' £5. Fat cattle—On Thursday at Mr Matthews’ sale they sold a very prime lot of fat bullocks and heifers. The following are the prices realised sat£97s6d;sat £8 6s ;5 at £7 ss; sat £7 15s; 9 heifers at £6 10s; Bdoat £5 15s; 2 cows at £72s 6d. At their monthly sale at Pleasant Point they sold 26 steers and heifers, eighteen months, at 48s; cows at from £9 10s,
Mr Moss Jonas reports as follows ; Horses—The usual number were entered at Mb yards. Biddings on Saturday were slack, and to effect sales lower prices than have been ruling for the past few weeks had to be accepted. He quotes gobd draughts at from £2O to £3O; medium, £l6 to £lB : hacks, from £l2 to £lB ; light, £6 to £B. Cattle—Fat stock are in better demand, with an upward tendency. He quotes prime beef at 20s per lOOlbs. Well-bred milch cows have brought good prices. Store cattle are in fair demand. At Washdyke on Monday last he sold 50 head at market rates. At the Pleasant Point yards on Friday he sold, by auction 80 head at the following prices—4 bullocks at £6 17s Od ; 6 /> do * at £5 16s; 6 do, at £3 12s 6d jl4 at £6 ;18 old cows, at £3 6s; 6 heifers, at £3 12s 6d.

Messrs William Collins and Co. report holding their regular weekly market and auction at their rooms on Saturday, off arm produce and general merchandise. There was a large a tendance. The entries were largely in excess of local requirements, but owing to there being outside buyers, they cleared the rooms of all entries at the following figures ;—Fowl wheat, 8s to 12s per sack; ciu-hed oats, 3s per bushel; onions, 9s to 12s per cwt.; potatoes, 50s to 60s per ton ; cheese, locally made, 5d per lb; fresh butter, 7d to 8d ; hams, Gd to 7d [ bacon, to Gd ; honey, 3d ; fowls, 2s Gd per pair , geese, 7s per pair ; turkeys, 8s per pair; spring chickens, 2s per pair; pigeons, Bs per dozen ; carrots, 60s per ton ; flour, JEll per ton ; bran, 80s ; sharps, 100 s ; oaten chaff, 50s per ton at railway siding; white Mauritius sugar, 4 : }d per lb; box tea, 11s to 14s; maizena, 3d per lb ; candles, Deßoubaix, 9d ; breech-loading guns were in good demand at for single-barrel br.eech loaders, 80s; double, GOs,- 100 s, to 140 s each. Household furniture, chinaware, and a large assortment of sundries were eagerly bought up at satisfactory rates.
