Jonas reports as follows i Horses—For Saturday’s sale abopt. 40 horses of various sorts were entered at his yards, The attendance was large, bidding, nevertheless, being rather slack,' but the bulk of the lots submitted changed hands at abopt. last week's rates. He quotes first-class draughts at £22 to £2B ; useful farm horses, £lB to £2O ; ’ordinary farms horses,' £lO to £ls ; hacks, £8 up to: £l6. :

Cattle—The: demand for prime beef.is improving, and there is no doubt that this class of stock during the Winter months will be scarce. Store cattle are being moire sought after, though lio alteration ip prices can be. quoted. - During "the week, privately, he has sold 60 head at satisfactory _ rates. At Mr Henry Hullen’s clearing sale, on Wednesday, milch cows brought from £4los to £9 ; yearlings, £2; calves, 15s; at these prices he , sold 20 head.

Sheep—Fat sheep : The market is very bare, consequently prices during the week have again advanced. Store sheep of almost all descriptions are in good demand this can be accounted for not only from the abundance of feed in South Canterbury, but from very large orders that have been received from Otago and Southland. He reports selling 2000 half-bred hoggets at 7s 3d. At Winchester oh Tuesday, at the annnalram fair, he sold 36 rams at fair prices.

Kg*—At his yards he sold 30 of various sizes at only moderate prices. £.■ Wool, Skins, Fat, Hides, <kc-—On Thursday be disposed of about 2000 skins and a good number of small lots of wool at the following prices .-—From 7d to 84d for second-class merino wool; from 63 to7d for crossbred ; pieces from 3d to 4d ; good cross, bred skins from 5s 6d to 8d to 6s 8d each, the latter being extra good ; pelts from 7d to 2s 63; lambskins from Is to 2s each. / Property—On Monday he sold one quarter acre in the township of Kensington to a local purchaser for £35. On Thursday at OeraldlnC, in conjunction with Messrs T. W. Corbett and Co., he sold Town Section No. 97, containing 1 rood 17 perches, for £22losSection No. 180, 33 perches, for £27; Sections Nos, 38, 39, and 40, 3 roods, for £105; Sections Nos. 122, 123,2 roods, for £80; E.S. No. 21790, 20 acres, for £62 10s ; B.S. No. 32067, 60 acres,, for £llß 15s. Privately he has dispoSed of, for Mr Thos. Bardcastle, of Pleasant Valley, E.S. No. 21649,. 60 acres, : for £2OB ; R.S. No. 4125, 20 acres, for £100'; and R.S. No. 20182, 210 acres, for £7OO. Several other important properties placed in his hands for sale ate likely to change hands very shortly. Miscellaneous—At Winchester on Tuesdday, at theannnal ram-fair held under the auspices of the Temuka JAgricultural and Pastoral Association, he was favored with a fair number of entries, the Whole of which found purchasers, as reported above. On Wednesday, at Mr Hullen’s farm he held a sale of surplus dairy stock and implements. This sale was very well attended and the result satisfactory in every way, the large number of purchasers present competing briskly. On Thursday at Geraldine in conjunction with Messrs T, W. Corbett ana voi, he held a sale of town and rurial sections, the whole finding purchasers at fairrates. as quoted,above;, The sale was well attended by local,buyers. ' On-Satur-day bis sale of draught stock was held, 1 as above reported, and also the sale of produce and sundries in bis qaleroorbdn- the afternoon, At this last-named sale ia large quantity of farads’ produce -was cleared out at satisfactory rates. -’He quotes fowl com, 8a to 10b pet sack; damaged flour, £6 per ton; potatoes, 4s'to 5s per sack; bran, 4s ; bacon, 6d to 6d per 1b; butter! 8d > according to quality; cheese, «d ; fowls 3s per pair; ducks, 4s per pair; ' turkeys, 4s each; and privately, 400 bushels lye grass seed at 6s 2d; and 400 bushels of wheat at 4s 2d. •

Messrs Maclean "arid Stewart ' report for the past week as folio ws •• Horses.—An entry of 37 head was on Saturday received at their yards for sale, comprising a number of good useful farm horses, among which was a Jot of 10 head, mostly young unbroken colts arid fillies, belonging to Mr John Devon; • These were all veiy good stamps, and from the prices realized proved that the progeny of good mares and sires will always command payable values. The prices obtained for these were from £23 to £BS, one heavy brood mare, with foal at foot, by Banker, fetching £6O. They quote a much better demand for all kinds of horses existing at their sale on Saturday, and quote prices obtained from £23 to £35 for heavy draughts; from £lB to £2O for medium sorts;.and for hacks and light harness horses from £lO to £l6. At the above quotations they sold 18 head. ' Sheep—Prices for all kinds of store sheep are still on the increase, and there is a big demand for sheep for breeding and fattening o2 more especially in crossbreds and half-breds. Since they last reported they have sold, privately 3000 merino ewes, 800 half-bred wethers, at

satisfactory prices. Fatsheep-The price has advanced, and for good pfimo mutton per lb is about the average value* Catt 1 e—Thcrc k an enquiry for store cattle, although the prices ottering are but httle altered since they last reported.
