[Rkdter’b Agency.] Commercial. London, March 9. Consols are at IOOf. The total reserve in notes and bullion at the Bank of England is £15,250,000. New Zealand securities are without change in price. The market for colonial breadstuffis and tallow remains dull at former quotations. An animated demand continues to be experienced at the wool sales. To-day’s catalogues comprise 9600 bales. March 10. Consols are unchanged at 100|, New Zealand 5 per cent 10-40 loan remains at ez div, 5 per cent 1889 loan has advanced to 1044 ; 44 per cent 1879-1904 loan IOOf Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, has declined to 535; New jZealand do., is unchanged at 495; Adelaide Hour, ex store, 38s. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 2,830,000 quarters.

At the wool sale to-day 10,200 bales were catalogued. The market i s strong prices being generally id higher. High TreasonRoderick McLean, who made the attempt on the life of the Queen on the 2nd instant, was to day committed for trial on a charge of high treason. The Irish Land Act in the Lords. March 9. In the House of Commons to-day the motion introduced by Mr Gladstone on the 27th ult., setting forth that the projected inquiry by a Select Committee of the House of Lords into the working of the Irish Land Act was untimely and would defeat the operation of that measure and prove injurious to good government in Ireland, was carried, on a division, by 303 to 235.

The Chinese QuestionWashington. March 0. The Chinese Exclusion Bill is still under discussion in the Senate. At today’s sitting an amendment to the measure, was proposed with the view of admitting Chinese skilled workmen, but after debate the amendment was rejected by a large majority. March 10. At a later period of yesterday’s sitting and after a protracted debate, the Chinese Exclusion Bill was finally passed by the Senate. The Herzegovinian RevoltVienna, March 10. Telegrams are to hand reporting that the Herzegovinian insurgents have lately suffered several defeats at different points at the hands of the Austrian troops, and that they are rapidly losing ground and falling back from their positions.
