PAYABLE GOLD DISCOVERED NEAR HOKITIKA.
[By Telegraph.] Hokitika, March 8. Gold- was struck yesterday by Heron and party on a flat above Woodstock, on the south side of the Hokitika River, by sinking 50 feet. The depth of washdirt is from three to four feet, and it. is estimated to yield sdwts to the load. Several shafts are going down and a good many claims arebeing pegged out. The flat, though immediately in the vicinity of the terrace working, close to the river, has been untried, and it is of considerable extent. It is believed that 'anew lead has been found; ’ There was some excitement in town to-day on the news being received. .
