The Waimate Fire Brigade have decided to obtain one of Lieutenant Mitchell’s fireescapes, of the kind shown here during the sitting of the Fire Brigades Confer, ence. The Little River Railway is reported to be in some danger of partial destruction from the flooding of Lake Ellesmere, and the Akaroa County and Borough Councils ore stirring in the matter of preventive measures. So far they have only proceeded as far as obtaining unprofessional reports, which sn -gest the keeping open of an outlet to the sea as the simplest way of securing a low level in the lake.
