Searcy, found gnilty of embezzling the fnnds of the Metropolitan Building Society, has been sentenced to two years’imprisonment. , An All-round Disqualification. The Victoria Racing Club has do* oided that all Mr De Meslre’s horses that were entered for the Sires’ Produce Stakes at the Autumn Meeting, to be held next month, were wrongly nominated, and they have accordingly been disqualified for that race. Steamer Lost. ' Sydney, Feb. 8. • All efforts to float the Fiona, the A.S.N. Co.’s chartered steamer which recently went ashore on Seal Rock Point, have proved unsuccessful. A heavy sea is now broking over her, and she is expected shortly to become ;a total wreck. The vessel will be offerod at auction to-day. As the result of the enquiry which has been held by the Marine Board into the loss of the steamer, the Board finds that the vessel was wrrecked through the default of the captain, who has been summoned to show, cause on Monday next why his certificate should not be suspended.
