(Per Press Association.) Tne Steamer McGregor. New Plymouth, Beb 3. The steamer McGregor has been examined and no signs of any injury to her bottom can be discovered. The vessel’s being full of water is owing either* to one of the suction pip*? B leaking or the tap not being turned oft. The cargo is very little damaged. She left for Munukau this morning. DrownedDunedin, Feb. 4. Robert Mac Kay, a shepherd, aged 19, was drowned in attempting to cross the Waipori river on Wednesday. A Divided CouncilA Cromwell telegram says that when the northern Councillors came to the adjourned meeting, they found the County building locked, and the police in attendance to prevent forcible entry. Ultimately an entrance was effected. The northern members met and elected Councillor McKeliar, Chairman. The Queenstown FireA Coroner’s jury returned a verdict of arson against Waldemann re the Queenstown fire. The jury censured one of the witnesses for the manner in which he gave his evidence, and the insurance companies for over insuring.
