The Jews in RussiaA large and influential meeting was held to day at the Mansion House, for the purpose of taking steps to raise funds to assist the Russian Jews. A powerful Committee was appointed to carry out the objects of the meeting, and £15,000 was subscribed in the * room. New York, Feb. 1. A largely-attended public meeting was held here to-day, at which resolutions of sympathy with the position of the Jews in Russia were passed. It was also resolved to communicate with the Government and request it to ' intercede with the Czar, with a view to , steps being taken to stay the persecution of Jews in his Empire.
