SECOND EDITION CRICKET.

CANTERBURY v, OTAGO. [By Telegraph.] Dunedin, Feb, 3. The nineteenth Interprovincial cricket match between Canterbury and Otago was commenced on the Caledonian grounds to day. Owing to the recent heavy rains the wicket is very dead, and a strong sou’ wester blowing does not tend to improve the game. Spring, the Otago captain, won ♦lie toss, and elected to go in, sending in Davenport and Rose, to the bowling of. Fuller and Chapman. In making the first run Davenport ought to have been run out, and owes a life to the ball being badly returned by Watson. When the scores had reached 18, Hose lifted one from Fuller into the hands of W. Cotterill. I—ll—lß. Collinson received two balls from Chapman and played the third on his wicket. 2 Spring after contributing a leg hit for 3 and a couple of singles, was clean bowled by Chapman, 3 —24. At 30 Davenport lifted one from Fuller high to the off, where it was beautifully caught by Philpott. 4—11—30. Harris, after playing nicely for half-an-hour, swung one from Chapman round to leg, where Cotterill was in waiting. 6—15—56. At lunch time the score stood at 73; Crawshaw, not out, 19 ; Haskell, ditto, 11. Both playing freely. 3.33 p.m. On resuming Fowke replaced Fowler at the wickets. Runs, however, came;, very freely. Crawshaw in particular playing with great judgment, and his cutting was much admired. Haskell is hitting very hard, having knocked up 20 very, quickly. The score is now 102.
