MINISTERIAL PROMISES.
(Peb Pbess Association.) Auckland, Feb.. 2 : The Premier. and Attorney-General received a number of deputations to-day. The Directors of the Rotofna Railway Company waited; on them with the object of inducing the Government to prevent the. Waste Lands Board dealing with the land adjacent to the proposed line, which may be required, by the Company under the provisions of the District Railways Act. The Premier promised to temporarily stay the action of the Board, and to consult with the Minister for-Lands.
A deputation from the Chamber of Commerce urged the completion of the railway reclamation and the speedy construction of the Cambridge Rotorua road. Mr Hall said the Government could not do more re the reclamation than they were doing at present, but in three months the ground would be. ready for the erection of the station. He "said the Government had to act; cautiously re the Rotorua road in order' to avoid any complications with the natives. , The deputation also urged on the Premier the advisability of at once proceeding with the Auckland-Taranaki Railway Mr Hall replied that the Government were impressed with the impor tance of the work and the necessity of fnoceeding with it even though a fresh oan had to bo contracted.
