The VolunteersIt has transpired that a commandant of the Victorian Volunteer Force, in succession to the late Colonel Anderson, will be obtained from England. SmallpoxThe P. and 0. Company’s steamer Mirzapore now in quarantine, will be detained for a period of 14 days, owing - • to a fresh outbreak of smallpox among her passengers, and it is probable that another steamer will be chartered to carry the outward mails on the 16th February in her place. Homeward MailsThe Postal Department announces, that the P. and 0. steamers will henceforth leave Melbourne with the homeward mails on Thursdays instead of Wednesdays, as in the past, except during the Indian monsoon season. Melbourne to New ZealandSailed, this afternoon—Union Com pany’s steamer Te Anau, for BluffSir John O’Shannnssy is a passenger by her for England.
