TIMARU HIGH SCHOOL.

The ordinary raonthlj meeting of the Timaru High School Board of Governors was held last evening. Present—Rev. W. Gillies and G. Barclay, and Messrs Chisholm, LeCren and Sutter. The Secretnr}', Mr Clul.ee, was also present.

Mr Chisholm was elected Chairman of the Board for the ensuing year, and the Rev. Mr Gillies, the retiring Chairman, vacated the chair in favor of that gentleman and took his seat at the Board table.

On the motion of the Rev, W. Gillies, seconded by Mr Sutter, Mr LeCrcn .was appointed Treasurer to the Board. Mr Dawson, the Rector of the sohool, was in attendance, and he reported to the Board the result of his visit to Mel bourne for the purpose of securing the services of a lady teacher for the school. He stated that he had advertised the post in the “Age ” and “Argus ” and that a large number of applications had been sent in. These he had eliminated down to eight or nine, which were now before the Board, The most 1 likely application was one procured through a private source, arid was from a ladj' at present holding a position in the 1 High School at Sandhurst, an institution Similarly constituted to the Timaru school. The lady’s name was Pearson, and she held a license to teach under the Education Department of Victoria.

After, consideration ■ of ...the . several applications it was resolved—“ That Mrs Pearson be elected lady teacher for the High School, at £250 per annum.”, The : Rector presented his - usual monthly report, which stated there were already 25 new pupils enrolled, and that the prospectus for 1882 was ready for publication. The report also particu. larised the result of his visit to Melbourne; and expressed the thanks of t|ie staff and himself for the handsome bonuses awarded them by the Board. ’ : The Hector, introduced the subject of making provision for instruction of the girls in calisthenics, and a discussion 'took place upon it. ending in the postponement of it until the arrival of the lady teacher.... . !
