AUCKLAND REGATTA.
Yesterday was observed as a close holiday in Auckland in celebration of the forty-second birthday of the colony, Lieutenant-Governor Hobson having unfurled the British flag and proclaimed the sovereignty of,Queen. Victoria over, the-Islands' bn Jim. 30, 1840, The principal provision made for‘spending the holiday was a regatta, which passed off successfully. The principal events were the following : Championship Race For trading brigantines and schooners. First prize, £75 and N.Z.S. Co.’s Cup, valued at £25 ; second prize, £25. Transit, topsail schooner, 88 tons ... 1 Torea, „ „ 78 „ ... 2
Sybil, „ „ 150 „ ... 0 Gisborne, fore-uud-after, 68 „ ... 0
Trading Gutters, 25 tons—First prize, 1 £3O, and the “ Herald ” Cup. Rangitira 1 Rose 2 Sculling Race, open to all comers— First prize, £2O ; 3 miles. A. White 1 Carter 2
