At Featherston on Monday a resident who objected to pay threepence to a local tollkeeper for a led horse was mulcted in 17s costs for defending the action.' , At Oamaru yesterday two licensed victuallers were charged with selling spirits adulterated with water. One case was dismissed because the prosecution omitted to prove that no one but the constable had access to the spirit() taken before they were delivered to the analyst. The second case was dismissed because the constable was told there was water in the spirits before they were delivered to him or paid for. The defendant in each case said there were notices in the bar that their spirits were “reduced,” but the police did not see them.
