CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE
Report for the week ending Friday evening the 20th instant:— Business in the grain trade during the past week has been exceedingly quiet. Farmers are now busy with the harvest. Reports from the various districts as to the yield are, on the whole, good, though doubtless there are great discrepancies. It is difficult to give exact quotations at present, as transactions have been few, and prices are not yet established. Wheat—Best milling samples, of old wheat range from 4s 2d to 4s 3d per bushel. The new grain is not yet in the market, and prices are not yet established. Second quality old wheat ranges from 3s fid to 3s Bd, chick wheat, from 2s 6d to 3sper bushel. • •-’>■* Oats—Good short milling samples of old oats are saleable from 2s to 2s Id per bushel,. Tartarian Is XOd to Is lid. Now oats are not yet in ‘the market, and prices are not/yet fixed. Barley—No business has as yet been done in this cereal.
Grass seed—Good clean samples are saleable at from 3s 6d to 4s per bushel. The quality of the samples coming to hand is exceedingly good.
