He will go to the Hospital for treatment of the injuries received in his fall. OBSTRUCTING A RAILWAY OFFICER. Peter Thomson was charged with obstructing a railway officer the previous day. Inspector Pender prosecuted and Mr Hamers! ey appeared for defendant and pleaded not guilty. '■ . ; The evidence of Mr Jones, station master at Timaru, showed that defendant was on the passenger platform yesterday afternoon when a train was starting, intoxicated, and making a great noise by laughing and talking at the top of liis voice, and by so doing prevented orders being heard, and that'he flatly refused to leave when requested, unless a policeman was sent for. ■ ! Constable Blackmore gave evidence' as to the removal of the defendant from the platform, when asked to remove him by the station master. Defendant went to the verandah at the back of the station, and then tried to return, and on the constable seeking to prevent him a struggle ensued and the defendont fell. Mr Hamersley put defendant in the box, and called two witnesses to show that that defendant was not intoxicated, was not noisy, and did nothing more to obstruct the platform than other people. The witnesses on both sides were examined and cross examined at considerable length. Finally the Bench decided that there had been some obstruction, but as the case was not a common one, they would inflict a light fine of £l. The Court then rose.
