A very successful entertainment was held in the Wesleyan schoolroom last evening, the hall being filled. The various items on the programme were rendered most creditably and were all well received by the audience. Unfortunately the Rev. Mr Beck had to apologise for the absence of several of the performers who were unable to attend on account of illness. Miss Ball accompanied most of the singers in her usual creditable manner.

The British metropolis is to be endowed with another colossal hotel. The site is on the northern side of Holburn, abutting on Warwick Court at Holburn. The new caravansersai is to contain some 400 rooms, and is to be called the ‘ First Avenue Hotel,’ from the circumstances that it is intended to construct an arcade or avenue running through the block of the hotel building. It will be conducted on the American system so much a day for bed and board, and no fees for waiters.”
