TIMARU HIGH SCHOOL.
The monthly meeting of the Board of Governors was held at the Education office yesterday evening. All the members were present. The Hector’s report stated that the atttendanee was as follows : —Boys 69 ; girls 66 ; total 135. In the competition for the commercial medal therejwere three candidates. Gus. J ones was the prizetaker.
In the girls there were six competitors —prize-taker, Mary McLean. The public scholarships decided on the marks of the year were awarded to Miss McLean and Miss Jameson on the girls’side, and Masters C. Barclay and Goldsmith on the boys’ side. Eighty pounds was voted for the purchase of scientific and calisthenio apparatus. It was resolved—“ That persons not having previously attended the school for twelve months, and wishing to join any particular class, be charged one guinea per quarter for each subject.” It was resolved that Thursday, Dec. 15, be appointed speech day, and that the Hon. Mr Holleston be invited to distribute the prizes, failing Mr Holleston, that the Chairman be invited to do so. Hesolved —“ That the Board tender thanks to the ladies who have subscribed towards the purchase of a cup and whip for the school sports, and that the Board will cause the same to be presented at speech day.” It was resolved that the Prize Committee be empowered to select some lady to present the prizes. Six applications for the post of lady teacher were received, but action in regard to them was deferred. Accounts amounting to £153 12s 4d were passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
