The ship City of Cashmere, 980 tons, now in Lyttelton, is to come here in a few days to load direct for Home.

The barque Ganymede, recently purchased by Mr A. White for the coal trade, arrived at 5 o’clock this morning, 17 days out from Newcastle, with a full cargo of coal for her owner. The Ganymede is now the largest locally-owned vessel, and we wish her enterprising owner success in his venture. She is a smart looking vessel, resembling the Andes and Peerless, which were here some time ago. She was built at Liverpool in 1868, and judging from her appearance has always been in good hands, and has been well taken care of. Special credit is due to Captain Morgan, who is well known here, and his officers for the unusual cleanliness of the vessel now, considering what her cargo is. It is very seldom indeed that a collier is so trim and neat as the Ganymede was on her arrival. The Westport was hauled alongside the wharf this morning and completed her loading during the day direct from trucks. She was expected to sail about fire this afternoon. There was a considerable swell running outside, and the “ range” inside was troublesome but not sufficient to prevent use of the wharf.

On the Westport clearing out the schooner Awaroa will come alongside the wharf to discharge. __________
