In signing the requisition to Mr J. H. Sutter, asking him to become a candidate for the Mayoral chair for the next civic year, the burgesses who did so have shown that they appreciate Mr Sutter’s energetic efforts in their behalf during his past term of office, and such appreciation is general. There is one reason why Mr Sutter should be re-elected Mayor of Tiraaru which could not well be stated in a requisition, but it is one that should have a very great influence on the minds of the ratepayers. It is this: The waterworks scheme is approaching completion, but cannot be completed during the current Mayoral term. Mr Sutter has borne, as Mayor, the heat and burden of the day in carrying out that scheme—what other person can properly take his place until that work shall have been brought to a successful termination ? Who else could wUh good grace take the leading part in any festivities to celebrate the completion of the work ? Whom else could the ratepayers on such an occasion, without a strong feeling of absurdity, thank as the head of their executive body for the successful completion of the scheme ?
