[“Age” and “Akgus” Specials.] (Per s.s. Rotomahana at the Bluff.) London, Oct. 29. The defeat of the Conservatives at the German elections is complete. The progressive party, who are antagonistic to Prince Bismarck, have gained twelve seats. In the Homan Catholic Cathedral, Dublin, yesterday, a Pastoral letter by Dr McCabe, Archbishop of Dublin, was read from the pulpit, in which the cry “ No Rents,” raised by the Irish National Land League, was vigorously denounced. The most Rev. Prelate contended that to advocate or accept such Communistic theories would disgrace any Christian people. Numbers of the congregation left the Cathedral while the Pastoral letter was being read. Oct. 31. The Emperor of Austria has publicly expressed his firm conviction that the Berlin Treaty has been so successfully

carried out that the peace of Europe is now assured.

A mass meeting to sympathise with the Irish Land League has been held at Parsonstown, situated in King’s County, Several thousand persons attended, and speeches of the ordinary inflammatory type were delivered. The meeting passed over without disturbance.

The magistracy of Cork have resolved to aid Government to the utmost of their power in the suppression of disturbances in their district, and to secure the maintenance of order. Over 200 justices have intimated to authorities their determination in this respect.
