TO THE ELECTORS OF GLADSTONE. | ENTLEMBN, —I have much pleasure V3T in complying with your very numerously signed Requisition, asking me to allow myself to be Nominated as your Candidate at the coming Election. In complying with that request, I must remind the Electors that the Electoral District of Gladstone extends over so large a tract of country, that it will be impossible for me to visit every Elector. I may state, for the information of those Electors who I have not the pleasure of knowing, and who do not know me personally—although never having been in Parliament —, lam not altogether unknown to Politics. I was for five years a member of the Timaru and Gladstone Board of Works, where I think I did good service to our district. I believe in Liberalism, but not In Communism, which too many of the self-styled Liberals of the day, who advocate liberty for their own views but for no one else, in reality want. My view of Liberalism is : Let every man do as he likes so long as he respects the laws of his country, but do not make bad laws and expect people to respect them, X object to direct taxation in any form, but if we must have a tax, I am of opinion that the property tax is the best. I am also of opinion that the present railway charges for produce could be reduced with advantage, both to the farmer and the Government, I am, Gentlemen, Yours respectfully, THOMAS FISHER, M.D. FISH SEASON, 1881, W. PRICE— Fishmonger. I HAVE arranged for a constant supp'y throughout the Season of a splendid assortment of the best and choicest Fish in New Zealand Waters, and which can be seen at my Fish Mart every day on the arrival of each train from North and South. Ladies desirous of obtaining the Pick would do well to purchase at the Mart. Two carts will rup all day long during the season to deliver to purchasers. Smoked Fish always on hand. Country orders attended to promptly. W. PRICE, Fishmonger, near the Railway, and Opposite the Club Hotel.
