Hilarious ran well for a mile and a half, but fell behind at the end of the course. The finish was very close. Time—2 mi a 524 secs, The Maribyrnong Plate, a sweepstake of 30 sovs each, with 500 added. The second horse to receive 200 sovs and the third 100 sovs out of the stake. Five furlongs. 135 subs.

Santa Claus made the running all the way, Somnus lying second and third until he reached the distance post, when he collapsed, and died away coming up the straight. Somerset, the favorite, was last nearly all the way. Darebin was lying in a good position at the distance post, when he went to the front and won comfortably. Time—2min 41^-sec.

Saturday night. Santa Claus has greatly improved in the Cup betting to-night, on account of his running in the Derby.
