SECOND EDITION

South Canterbury to the Front! Captain Hameraley received the following telegram from Christchurch from Colonel Packe about 3.30 this afternoon : “ Captain Hamersley—Bring yonr men, including Temuka and Asfiburton, by first train to-morrow morning, to arrive here at 3.15, to go direct on board the Stella. Bring all your tents and equipage. Have wired to Temuka and Ashburton.— Packe.” At 4 p.m. the following wa# received : “ Have arranged with railway to pass your men in uniform. If you have any men who are not provided with uniforms the railway will recognise passes written for them and signed by you. This applies to Temuka, Ashburton, etc., as well as Timaru.— Packe.”
