Mr Postlethwaite speaks' at Hilton this evening. Mr W. Bateman has accepted the invitation he received to stand for Waimate. Messrs Steward and Manchester face the electors next week;

Mr Ivess, a candidate for the Wakanui electorate, avows himself an opponent of the present Government, but would not support Sir George Grey as leader of any party; favors Mr Bryce’s action as Native Minister in his endeavors to bring to a termination the Waimate Plains difficulty ; condemns the past action of Government in native matters; condemns the Gaming and Lotteries Bill; would support an income tax on incomes above £2OO, favors the reading of the Bible in schools; condemns the railway tariff, and is opposed to a uniform rate throughout the colony ; and is in favor of an elective Upper House. The Trade and tabor Association of Dunedin have adopted the following political platform . —With regard to Crown lands, that they be leased only, and not sold, and land already sold to taxed ; encouragement of local industries ; the eight hours system to be legalised ; no further immigration; technical education to be added to the present system ; an Employers'Liability Act to be passed; prohibition of the instruction in skilled labor in the prisons ; local option and the abolition of bottle licenses ; and law reform.
