LATE CABLE NEWS.
[By Telegraph.]
(Per steamer at Auckland.) London, Oct 13. Edward Trickett, the Australian champion, has challenged Hanlan to row for the Championship of the World and £4UO a side. Hanlan has accepted the challenge, and the proposed contest takes place at St. Louis on Nov. 22. Another phase of revivalism is apparent in England. Messrs Moody and Sankey have appeared at New-castle-on-Tyne to very large audienfces, and the preaching of the one and the singing and playing of the other have caused great religious excitement. A question has arisen with respect to the visit of English ironclads at Alexandria. The Minister for Foreign Affairs assured the Khedive that the event possesses no political insignificance whatever, and the statement has caused some surprise, as it was thought that the circumstance was connected with a determination to assist the Khedive in maintenance of order.
A good deal of excitement and much varied surmise has been provoked by the circumstance, which has just come to light, of a secret visit paid by Gambetta to Prince Bismarck. Theie is much speculation as to the probable objets of the meeting.
